I recently got hooked on Lapsang Souchong after buying it from QualiTea in Sydney. I was running out while in Melb and decided to try this version. Sadly it was not as smokey as the stuff I'd bought before. Still an okay tea but lacking in punch. The leaf size was also a lot smaller than the other tea I had, which usually makes for a stronger brew, yet this seemed weaker in comparison. The colour was slightly darker, but you only get the initial hint of smoke and then the flavour just dissipates . It's a shame as this version is cheaper and I really wanted to like it.
I just adore this tea. My mother got me onto it. She always mixes it with a bit of regular loose leaf tea (Bushells - sorry for the purists), as the lasang by itself can be weak. Note that we drink it like the Queen - strong with milk. This tea is Chinese in origin, but absolutely came into its own in the Anglo world through the 19th British insanity for Chinoiserie which resulted in stuff that barely registers in China itself into the stratosphere in the Anglosphere.
